This is on my Dell Inspiron 15-3541 laptop, OS Win 7 Home 32bit. The HDD in question is a 500GB Sata laptop drive in an external case that plugs into the USB port. I was working on putting a Windows password recovery prog on a USB flash drive and making the flash drive self booting. I am working on an Asus model X541NA laptop OS Win 10 home 64bit. I forgot the the windows 10 login password....

I just updated my IDE drive Vista installation to Windows 7 on a SATA drive (Intel Mobo DP965LT). Thereafter the HDD light stayed on constantly- never a flicker even. I'd removed the old Vista IDE drive not thinking it was needed. Wrong! After much trial and error I refitted the IDE drive additionally and reset the boot order in BIOS to boot from the SATA drive. BINGO! HDD light now working...

  • 12/22/18--07:31: Pagefile size on new SSD
  • Hi, I have recently done a clean install and have all my drivers and updates done now. I notice that the pagefile is set to the automatic option and is taking up around 32GB. Should I used the custom option to add in values? My system has 32GB of ram. Would anyone have any recommendations? Thanks, Paul

I'm creating a DVD in Adobe Encore, the final stage of which is writing the finished DVD image to disk. It's 8.45GB, usually takes 5-10 minutes. It's estimated to take over an hour. It also took me over ten minutes to delete 350GB of video files. Playing videos in VLC is impossible, unless I watch them all the way through. If I want to jump around I have to wait for it to buffer, kind of...

I'm building a new W7 PC with a 250GB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe M.2 SSD boot drive. From what I'm reading online, it seems that this might be a complicated process. It's occurred to me that an easier method might be to install Windows onto a conventional SATA HDD, add all the necessary updates and drivers, then clone it to the SSD. Comments?

Hi, I had a few BSODs and random times, and now there are hard waits at random times, solved only by power off/on. 1- The first BSOD was while awaiting reboot after I had increased virtual memory in an attempt to fix chrome tabs from crashing due to out-of-memory. 2- after the first BSOD I found some hits on the code so I updated my NVIDIA drivers 3- somewhere along in on of the many reboots...

Also at times the screen just goes crazy with colours usually just before it goes black. The card is shown as - Nvidia Windows kernal mode driver version 388.13. I updated the drivers without result I'm running W7 Home on a...

I am setting up an HD and the Windows 7 install routine seems to be going very slowly. Halts on 1% then 2% etc for what seems long periods. The computer is old. And it has 4Gb. It may be just caving as an old rig. But can memory write problems and such be the cause? As I recall I ran MS Memtest when doing the current set up. Or expanding the Cores through MSI software?

I have a group of video files that I want to join, requiring that they all have the same frame height and width. When I change only those two items in Xmedia Recode (making both the height and width smaller) and create a new file (both input and output are MP4), the new file's size is about twice a large as the old file. I don't have the specific numbers. Can anyone explain why the file's...

Its not narrator. All I did was change the mouse to large and inverting. Now everytime mouse moves to an item, windows talks about it. I want it to stop talking this nonsensical stuff. Switching mouse back to normal and it still talks. Ok, it seems to have finally stopped doing that. What was it doing? Was narrator running?

Hello, First time im really struggling with a computer issue. PC is fine normally, I can play say MTW2 on the monitor no issues, but then I may switch to playing DOOM in big picture mode on the TV and the PC will hang then BSOD. when it boots back into windows it is unstable and usually causes several further BSODs (You will see the short time difference between the BSODs after the initial...

Hello friendly people of the interwebs. I recently did a complete reinstall of my system, using a new (bigger) SSD drive for my OS. So except for the new SSD, no other hardware has changed. Same RAM, same Graphics card, etc... Which has been working without any problems for the last few years. But now on this new install, from the beginning I have been troubled with crashes so called...

  • 12/24/18--06:49: Do I Have A Virus?
  • Several times recently when using IE11 browser, some strange things have popped up on screen. They seem to be saying my system is outdated or problems with firewall. Also say that files will be deleted/destroyed. A couple even had a countdown timer on them. Seem to remember that the address bar at top left of screen on one of them said something like Wink or Winx. Are the warnings on screen...
