I have a Workgroup network of PCs running a mix of Win7 (3 machines: T1600, T5500, Optiplex), Win10 (1 machine: T5810) and WinXP (1 old PC). I used to be able to access each machine from any of the others, but now this is not possible: One Win7 PC (T1600) can 'see' and access all the others. The other Win7 PCs (T5500 & Optiplex) only see themselves and the 2 other Win7 PCs. In 'Network &...

I've done searches on the topics of homegroups and workgroups, here and elsewhere, and read threads until my eyes have glazed over, but there are still some points I'm missing. Normally, I can research and figure this stuff out on my own, but I'm at the point now that the more I read, the more confused I get. Up to now, I've used a blend of homegroup and workgroup on our network, but it's not...

I'm working on a Home Premium Win 7 and I have tried to get Safe Mode Command Prompt to work using F8 but it just doesn't - goes straight to Safe Mode Login Screen. Sticky Keys stuff interferes with 5 Shift key method of entering command prompt. Therefore, I can't issue net user command. Owner set herself up as "Guest" account. It's the only account. I don't have Home Premium media. ...

  • 10/08/18--18:52: New Gmail sooo slow
  • I could start off asking is it just me but I know that's not the case. Surprised it hasn't been brought up yet. Anyone delve into this problem yet? The little I've read on it so far there's really not much we can do, all up to google. Opinions?

Hi, Yesterday my system crashed with a BSOD - just was able to read the line "not less or equal" at the top before it restarted. After that, it got in an system start-up repair loop that repaired and restarted several times, after a few restarts, I hit F8 to get into the secured start mode, it worked, the system at least booted. Today I just started the computer, the system booted...

  • 10/09/18--13:50: recover files using chkdsk
  • I ran chkdsk /X /f on a SD card and it found 139 files. but it couldn't recover them as the SD card was full and there was no space to write them. why was it trying to write the recovered files onto the same drive? Surely even windows cant be that daft. Is there some way I can tell chkdsk to write the recovered files to a different drive or volume? However it did write 36 damaged files back onto...

Basically I'm looking for a good discussion of restores focusing on disk 'type'. Not necessarily here, but if there is an article someone can point to, I'd appreciate it. I have not found this situation in a google search. I ran in to a problem restoring my system and while I resolved it, I don't understand what the issue is/was. Basically, the system is a play / sandbox machine...
