Hi there one and all. New to the forum. I have a laptop with a solid state drive. Says 111G. Went to the C drive and added all the different things like windows, prog' files etc. All up it came to about 83Gb. Windows being 30.6Gb. Looking at disk space it says 13.8 of 111 empty. That makes 97.2Gb. Not the 83Gb. No doubt there are hidden files and some memory set aside. Does this sound...

Can I please get some clarification on this? I’m having a similar issue but don’t want to make any changes to the registry wo being oostuve. I’ll start by saying I am NOT an IT PROFESSIONAL in any capacity but have been dealing with a number of issues over the past few weeks. That being said I know enough ugh about the field to bring to this impasse. Please, though don’t assume that I understand...

Hello everyone, I am using Win7 ULT 32bit on HP dc7100CMT Desktop, and mistakenly (or without knowing it) bought on Auctions a NEW Seagate Constellation ES.3 4TB SAS HDD to be as a backup for my DATA. To this end, I have a normal 3TB HDD SATA, but it's already full. When I saw a larger one in Auctions, 4TB, I didn't hesitate to buy it, for $100. As soon as it reached me, I straightaway began...

One of my PCs keeps waking up from standby, with no input from me. I have set things so that the (home) network and devices (keyboard/mouse) should not do this, but I still have the problem. I ran this in a CMD window powercfg -lastwake and got the result in the screenshot. I don't necessarily want to turn this kind of update (though Windows Media update could certainly be removed),...

I have to work with several windows belonging to a particular application. For example, the problem may be considered as working with several windows for Windows Explorer. An easy way to see the list of all such vendors is to just click on the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar. However, I have disability due to which I cannot use the mouse. In fact I use a speech recognition system because...

  • 08/20/18--09:01: Task Scheduler Problem
  • Hello- Windows Task Scheduler will not open most of the time & getting worse. The newest messages I am getting has to do with the Microsoft Management Control (MMC) snap in problem. I have 2- older screen shots of what I saw initially. I may be able to get a shot of the newest, but what happens now is that the Task Scheduler will not close without using my Task Manager to end the program.

  • 08/20/18--11:36: New computer build question
  • So I built the computer in my system specs last year. It was my first build. Prior to that all I did was upgrades to OEM computers and then my Bro gave me his PC which he built that I also upgraded. When I got done with my build which took me ten hours of carefully making sure everything was right, I booted it up. It scared the hell out of me because the computer cycled through a couple of boots...

My ISP is AT&T U-Verse and I am using Windows Live Mail 2012 as my email software. I have recently began experiencing multiple occurrences of downloading of numerous emails which I had already received. I have gone through my Inbox and deleted many of these repeatedly downloaded emails, only to have them downloaded again. Is there a setting in Windows Live Mail (2012) that I need to look at?...

Edit: Feel free to move this to Drivers sub-forum, as I just noticed it's probably more relevant there. *SOLVED:*Fixed the issue. It was just two registry entries in HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class where there was a key named LowerFilters pointing to the old driver. After backing up the two entries, I deleted the corresponding LowerFilters keys and rebooted and the old filter...

I was using Windows 7 (with newest updates) normally. Then I decided to do two things. After those changes Windows went haywire very quickly. First, I did Disk Cleanup. It was strange that there was ~600 GB for temporary windows update files or something like that. So I tried to clean that up. But it didn't clean up 600 GB, so there might've been some statistical error on that. Anyway, I just...

This is a c.2009 Toshiba Satellite A300-02W, dual core. It was given to me in 9/17. The machine may have come with the Gadgets option, or a later upgrade/update enabled same, cos I think I've seen hints of it here and there--but I've never used it. This has never happened before. What setting is responsible for laptop screen orientation? I have to...

Friend has a Vista 32 bit and he just bought a Win 7 installation disk. Keep getting the message "A req CD/DVD drive dev driver is missing....." when installing 7. Someone suggested f8 on Vista boot and selecting Disabled Driver Signature Enforcement. But then just boots to Vista. Tried rebooting right after that with Win 7 disk in but still got the driver missing window. Tried right...

  • 08/21/18--07:48: Notepad Out of Whack
  • My notepad is all out of whack. The font is showing in Italics and I have no idea what the size is. I did manage to get changed back to Times New Roman. How do I get it back like it came from the factory?

I have an Acer Desktop PC. I remember someone once telling me on here that it was better to do smart scans on Anti Virus/Malware most of the time rather than full scans, as full scans cause a lot of wear and tear on the hard drive. This got me thinking what other things I could do to cause less wear and tear on my hard drive or even the whole pc. Generally I start up my pc mid morning and use...
